  • Popular televangelist T.B. Joshua is back in the spotlight following a BBC report
  • A former Manchester United star once visited the pastor's church to be healed
  • The England midfielder cleared the air on why he attended the Nigerian church

The late televangelist, Temitope Balogun Joshua - commonly known as T.B. Joshua - has once again become the focus of attention due to a recent BBC report shedding light on some of his activities during his lifetime.

Throughout his life, the Nigerian pastor gained widespread recognition for various reasons, including his philanthropic efforts and, most profoundly, the endless flurry of miracles he had claimed to have performed.

The healing powers associated with the Nigerian minister seemed to extend beyond the borders of Africa and even into the realm of football, as evidenced by the visit of former Manchester United midfielder, Angel Gomes, to the renowned Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Nigeria.

When Gomes visited TB Joshua

In 2016, the England U21 international was spotted in the church. In a currently-trending video shared on social media, Gomes identified himself as a 16-year-old whose parents are followers of the televangelist.

Addressing the congregation, he recounted the challenges he faced due to recurring injuries, including issues with his hip, groin, and ankle. These injuries often struck at crucial moments, preventing him from participating in important tournaments, matches, and breakthrough opportunities.

"My name is Angel Gomes. I'm from Manchester, and I play for the Manchester United Football Club. I have been struggling with injuries, particularly around my hip and groin, affecting my gameplay. I also suffered an ankle injury not long ago, keeping me sidelined for an extended period."

The young midfielder, who also captained the England national team at the under-17 level, explained that his family had long been followers of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, and due to their faith in the prophet, they believed it was the right time for him to seek healing at the church.

The video appeared to have garnered loads of reaction; however, the midfielder subsequently ensured he cleared the air on the events that panned out in the lead-up to the video.

Gomes wrote on social media that he was young at the time and only did what his parents thought was best for him.

The youngster, however, failed to find his feet at the Premier League Club and subsequently completed a permanent transfer to Ligue 1 club, Lille, in the summer of 2021.

Since his transfer to the French club, Gomes has won the Trophee des Champions and made over 100 appearances for the club, according to data courtesy of Fotmob.

The controversial televangelist, meanwhile, passed away on June 5, 2021, and more than two years later, a BBC report claims he was entangled in a lot of unpleasant scandals.

Daniel Amokachi’s TB Joshua experience

Sports Brief also previously reported on former Super Eagles coach, Daniel Amokachi recounting his experience after visiting the famous TB Joshua’s church.

The former Nigerian international disclosed that he slept at the church's altar for weeks but never received the much-desired miracle he sought at that time.
