We may have just witnessed a Puskas-worthy goal in the FA Cup.

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford may well have wrapped up the competition for the FA Cup goal of the tournament as he scored a stunning volley on Sunday, January 7, against Peterborough.

Bamford, who has struggled for form in the Championship this season, announced himself in the FA Cup third round with Leeds’ second goal, and it is worth a watch.

The former England striker collected an aerial ball from Ethan Ampadu and expertly controlled it with his chest, before unleashing a volley that caught the whole stadium by surprise.

Peterborough's Fynn Talley stood no chance as the ball looped over him with pace, leaving the whole stadium reeling in disbelief.

His goal served to double Leeds’ lead after Ampadu had given his side the lead in the 34th minute, as reported on TalkSport.

Here are some reactions from fans:

Bamford’s goal was so outrageous that sections of fans drew comparisons to Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick against Everton.

What is certain, however, is the 30-year-old’s goal has stolen Pedro Porro’s spotlight, as the Tottenham star was the talk of the competition with a stunner against Burnley two days earlier.

Otherwise, it was delightful to see Bamford get back on the score sheet, especially with the injury woes he has endured in recent seasons.

Pochettino on Nkunku’s absence

Sports Brief also reported on Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s take on Christopher Nkunku’s absence from the squad.

Nkunku is set to undergo new tests on Friday after injuring his hip in training. The Chelsea winger was a notable absentee when they hosted Preston North End in the FA Cup third round on January 6.

The striker only recently recovered from a knee injury that he picked up in preseason. The injury delayed his debut in West London and has been restricted to only 152 minutes since his return.
