  • Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is making headlines again
  • The Kenyan forward is reportedly attracting interest from Algeria
  • Omala started on the bench in Gor Mahia’s 1-0 win over Posta Rangers

Gor Mahia's prolific striker, Benson Omala, is once again making headlines amid speculations of a potential move to the Algerian side USM Alger.

The reports suggest that the eight-time Algerian champions are expressing interest in acquiring the services of the Kenyan forward.

Despite earlier rumours of Omala departing from the 20-time Kenyan champions, the striker has consistently performed on the field, attracting attention from several sides.

Reports indicate discussions between the players' representatives and the Algerian club have commenced, although the perennial Kenyan champions have yet to be officially informed about USM's interest.

"I am hearing this from you. This is a subject I would not wish to comment on now," said an anonymous source as reported by Pulse Sports.

After a remarkable season with 26 goals in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, Omala was previously linked to clubs within and outside Africa, including South African powerhouses Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Tanzanian champions Yanga.

It remains uncertain whether the recent reports will result in a formal offer and how Gor Mahia would respond to such a proposition.

Omala, a vital player in coach Johnathan McKinstry's squad, holds the current lead in the league's goal-scoring charts with eight goals.

McKinstry holds Omala in high regard, having transformed him into a prolific goalscorer.

“Benson is the striker that is perfect for my team. If you look through all my teams, whether in Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Uganda, or Bangladesh, we have always had a Didier Drogba-type No.9. Maybe I am the perfect coach to come and work with Benson. Ninety per cent of it is him, only 10 per cent is me. But he fits into the way I want to play football perfectly,” the Gor Mahia is quoted on Gor Mahia News.

USM Alger, a prominent team in Algeria and Africa, clinched the CAF Confederation Cup last season, defeating Yanga in the final.

The Algerian club is currently struggling in the top flight, positioned 13th in the 16-team league with 11 points from nine matches, trailing 17 points behind the league leaders MC Alger.

Ex-Gor Mahia boss takes charge of UD Songo

Sports Brief previously reported when Mark Harrison, former head coach of Gor Mahia, assumed the coaching position at União Desportiva do Songo (UD Songo) in Mozambique.

Harrison steps into the role less than two weeks after parting with Malawi Super League's Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

A statement from UD Songo expressed the management's delight, announcing Harrison as the new head coach and highlighting his rich background in African football.
