Chelsea legend John Terry made his pick in the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate.

Despite their respective achievements, opinion is always divided on who between the duo is the better player, per GOAL.

John Terry hails Messi

The former centre-back, who faced both Messi and Ronaldo during his playing career, offered a comment on a UEFA post featuring a video of Messi's iconic header for Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.

In that memorable match in Rome, Barcelona emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Messi, part of a stellar Barcelona team under the management of Pep Guardiola, displayed his enchanting skills in the final.

Despite not being renowned for his heading abilities, the Argentine executed an impressive leap, appearing suspended in midair before directing the ball past the Manchester United goalkeeper. Rio Ferdinand, considerably taller, found himself caught off guard.

Witness Messi's extraordinary leaping header in the 2009 final, a pivotal moment as Barcelona secured the continental treble.

Terry simply commented via Sportskeeda:

"The GOAT. Great goal"

Reflecting on that particular match, Barcelona took the lead with Samuel Eto'o's 10th-minute goal, and Lionel Messi's headed strike 20 minutes before the final whistle solidified their victory.

On the contrary, Cristiano Ronaldo had a lacklustre performance, unable to find the net.

As a result, Manchester United fell short of becoming the first team to secure back-to-back championships in the Champions League era.

Benzema snubs Messi, Ronaldo

Sports Brief also previously reported on Al Ittihad star, Karim Benzema recently naming his dream starting 11.

There were some glaring omissions from his squad, most notably his ex-teammate, Ronaldo as well as Messi.

The former Real Madrid striker was asked to give his dream starting 11 ahead of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
