Jurgen Klopp admitted he would be happy for Egypt to exit the Africa Cup of Nations in the group stages but has backed the Pharaohs to contend for the title
The Liverpool manager is sad to see his top scorer, Mohamed Salah, leave for Africa’s biggest football competition and even joked he and Egypt get knocked out in the group stages.
According to KingFut, Klopp has backed Egypt as one of the favourites to win the tournament scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast between January 13 to February 11.
“From a personal point of view, I would be happy if they go out in the group stage but that’s probably not possible. They can go on and win it.
“So it was ‘good luck and come back healthy’. We have to deal with it and we will deal with it.”
Salah is set to miss up to one month of action for Liverpool as the 31-year-old forward captains Egypt in search of his country’s eighth AFCON title and the first of his career.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has insisted Liverpool will find a way to with the absence of Mohamed Salah, with the Egyptian forward set to miss up to four weeks of action playing at the AFCON, Liverpool Echo reports.
The 31-year-old forward will miss Sunday’s FA Cup third-round trip to Arsenal, the League Cup semi-finals against Fulham, and much more depending on the Pharaoh’s progress in the competition.
While Salah is out, the remainder of Liverpool's attacking options are set to go, with Diogo Jota recently returning from a hamstring injury. Harvey Elliott is also a possible replacement for the Egyptian.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are preparing for life without their best player, Mohamed Salah, for a few weeks as the forward heads to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Klopp spoke about losing Salah and Wataru Endo (2023 Asian Cup) and joked that he wants them to be knocked out early.
