The renovation efforts at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru have surged ahead following the tartan track laying process.

The Nakuru County government unveiled images of the ongoing works at the stadium, which have been undergoing renovations since April 2021, announcing the commencement of the concreting process for the tartan track.

Lexis Limited, the contracted company, outlined the intricate stages of the track installation, involving the application of various layers such as spreading murram, laying polythene sheets, steel reinforcing, and finally, the concreting phase.

"While awaiting the curing of the tartan track, the project has reached an advanced stage of completion, with significant milestones accomplished," the County Government of Nakuru shared on their official Facebook page.

Sports Kenya advised the county government to ensure that the stadium's pitch and running track adhere to international standards.

Once finished, the county envisions the transformative development will enhance Nakuru City's reputation, nurture sports talent, and promote community engagement.

The stadium, shut down for a facelift with an allocated budget of Ksh650 million, has faced delays.

The county government aims to wrap up the facility's refurbishment early this year, anticipating a positive impact on sports in Nakuru and throughout the country.

This is especially crucial as Nyayo and Kasarani Stadia are set for major renovations ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a joint hosting venture with Uganda and Tanzania.

"The ongoing transformation of Afraha Stadium to meet international standards has witnessed remarkable progress, with the recent commencement of tartan track concreting marking a pivotal milestone in its development," stated the county government, as reported on Pulse Sports.

Kasarani Stadium Renovations

Sports Brief in December 2023 reported when the iconic Moi International Stadium Kasarani was closed for major renovations in preparation for the 2027 AFCON.

The ceremony, held inside the stadium on December 15, 2023, was presided over by Cabinet Secretary of Sports Ababu Namwamba, Sports Principal Secretary Peter Tum and Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru.

The Ministry seeks to align with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recommendations and fulfil its Sports Infrastructure Master Plan through a comprehensive overhaul.
