  • Lionel Messi spent two years with Paris Saint-Germain in France
  • His contract expired last summer and he moved to Inter Miami
  • Kylian Mbappe has lashed out at how he was treated in France

Kylian Mbappe is not pleased with how Lionel Messi was treated during his two-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain, which ended last summer, and he moved to Inter Miami.

Messi surprisingly left Barcelona in the summer of 2021 after they were unable to register his new contract with La Liga due to financial struggles at the club.

In his first season with PSG, he endured a difficult time, scoring just six league goals under compatriot Mauricio Pochettino, which led to heavy criticisms.

His second season improved, and he was hugely influential as the Parisians retained their Ligue 1 title by just one point over the spirited RC Lens.

Mbappe questions Messi’s treatment

Messi was close to extending his contract with the French giants before he headed for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World, which he won by beating France on penalties in the final.

Talks broke down, and it was confirmed two months before the end of the season that he would be leaving.

Mbappe, speaking in an interview with Prime Sport via AlbicelesteTalk, has expressed dissatisfaction at how the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner was treated in the country.

“Messi deserves all the respect in the world, and he didn’t get the respect he deserved in France, it’s a shame,” he said.

Per Goal, the former Barcelona captain claimed he was the only World Cup winner who was not honoured at his club following the triumph in Qatar in December.

The France international captain could also be set for an exit, with his contract set to expire in June and a renewal is yet to be agreed amid interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Mbappe admits he misses Messi

Sports Brief reported on Mbappe admitting he misses Lionel Messi at PSG after the Argentina captain left the club in July and moved to MLS with Inter Miami.

He named Messi’s playmaking ability to find runs behind the defence, which suits his style, as one of the things he missed having at the club, with Neymar Jr also leaving last summer.
