  • Ivan Perisic has not played for Tottenham Hotspur since September
  • The Croatian sustained a complex anterior cruciate ligament injury
  • Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has now spoken about Perisic’s future

Ivan Perisic may want to start looking for a new club after Tottenham Hotspur boss, Ange Postecoglou delivered a grim verdict on the winger’s future at the North London club.

The 34-year-old winger joined Spurs in 2022 after being brought to the club by former manager, Antonio Conte.

Perisic has since made 50 appearances for Tottenham, registering 15 assists, including a memorable one against Liverpool.

Ange Postecoglou has stated that Ivan Perisic will likely not feature for Tottenham Hotspur again after suffering a serious injury in September 2023.

As reported on Football London, however, Perisic’s career took a turn for the worst in September 2023 when he suffered a complex anterior ligament injury which required surgery.

He is on the road to recovery and could be in contention to represent Croatia in the European Championship, but his club career hangs in the balance after Postecoglou’s latest comments.

Postecoglou’s take on Perisic

In his latest press conference, Postecoglou was blunt about the 2018 World Cup finalist and the chances he would play for the team again.

"No, he's working hard, to be fair to Ivan. He's obviously got some national team commitments he wants to get back to as soon as possible," the gaffer said as cited by @TheSpursExpress.
"Again, he's been a significant loss for us. I thought this year he was going to be a really significant contributor because of his experience and we saw that in the first few games because of the way he impacted games, but yeah, he won't... He's unlikely to play for us again."

Before Postecoglou’s comments, Perisic had already been linked with a move away from Tottenham, with some outlets tipping him to join Hajduk Split in his native Croatia once he has fully recovered.

The 34-year-old's contract expires in the summer as it stands and a contract renewal is also unlikely.

What next for Tottenham?

Tottenham are in FA Cup action on January 5 when they host Burnley. This will be followed by a tricky trip to Old Trafford, where they will face Manchester United on Sunday, January 14.

Spurs currently sit fifth in the Premier League standings, with 39 points after 20 games, six behind league leaders, Liverpool.

Brentford’s stance on Toney

In other Premier League news, Sports Brief previously reported on Brentford’s stance on Ivan Toney amid continued interest from Arsenal.

The 27-year-old is set for a return to the Bees squad after serving an eight-month ban by the FA over breaches of betting regulations.

Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford while serving time away from football, with Arsenal said to eyeing his signature.
