Pitso Mosimane is regarded as one of Africa’s greatest coaches, but the South African manager might not be the best punter after losing a bet to one of his former players.
The 59-year-old manager, who has won the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly, lost a bet to Egyptian striker Ahmed Yasser Rayan while in charge of the North African giants.
According to KingFut, Yasser Rayan opened up on how he placed a wager with Mosimane after seeking to leave Al Ahly on loan due to his lack of game time under the South African.
“He made it clear that it would be difficult for me to start games at Al Ahly, so I asked him to go out on loan and I told him that I would be the league’s top scorer.
“He had doubts back then, but when I scored 15 goals that season, he said that I had won the bet we had and promised me game time, but it was unfortunate that he left the club.” Yasser Rayan disclosed in a recent interview.
Mosimane was Al Ahly's coach between October 2020 and June 2022 and enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the Egyptians, guiding them to two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, and they twice earned bronze at the FIFA Club World Cup.
