In a bid to bolster their squad ahead of the second round of the 2023/2024 season, Kaizer Chiefs are said to be interested in Nigerian international Stanley Nwabili.
The Chippa United goalkeeper has been named in Jose Peseiro's 25-man squad for the forthcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The 27-year-old has been in scintillating form for his club so far, attracting the technical crew of the Nigerian national team.
Only recently, the Super Eagles head coach visited the goalkeeper at his club to share his AFCON plans with the star.
The South African reports that Nwabili has registered seven clean sheets in the South African Premier Division this season; only Sundowns' keeper Ronwen Williams has more.
With the uncertainty in the goalkeeping situation at the club following the suspension of Itumeleng Khune, Nwabili has emerged as one of the frontrunners to challenge Bruce Bvuma for the number 1 spot.
AmaKhosi are already eyeing the shot-stopper and might make a move for him in January.
They might have to wait until after Nigeria returns from their quest to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2013.
Itumeleng Khune faces Chiefs' exit
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs legendary goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, is teetering on an ignominious exit.
Khune is at the mercy of the club's hierarchy after a terrible start to 2023/2024, which has been punctuated by ill-discipline.
The goalkeeper had his contract extended by one year, and this season is meant to be the farewell tour for the most glamorous of all Glamour Boys, but he was suspended from the club, and his captaincy was revoked.

FootballKhune linked with Manchester United
Sports Brief earlier reported that Manchester United have been given reasons why Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will be the perfect option to replace Africa Cup of Nations-bound Andre Onana temporarily.
Onana is set to miss a couple of games for the Red Devils after being called up to the Cameroonian national team for the competition from January 13 to February 11 in Ivory Coast.
Onana could miss as many as four games for Man United depending on how far the Indomitable Lions progress in Africa’s biggest football competition.
