FootballNeymar’s Record Transfer to PSG Under Investigation for Potential Political Crime
- Neymar was signed by Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in 2017 for a world-record transfer fee
- The Brazilian superstar left the Parisians in August last year to join Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League
- Authorities are investigating a potential political crime over Neymar transfer from Spain to France
It’s been six years since Neymar Jr made history by signing for Paris Saint-Germain, but his move is still making headlines.
The Brazilian signed for the French side from Barcelona for what is still the record transfer fee in football history.
As noted by Sky Sports, Neymar signed a five-year contract at the Parc des Princes after PSG paid his £222 million buyout clause.
While his time in France has ended and he has since moved on to Saudi Arabia, his record move is still being discussed. Football Espana has reported that the Al-Hilal star’s move to the Ligue 1 side is being investigated.
Authorities in France are said to be looking into the deal as a potential political crime.
How PSG’s deal could be politically related
A former member of the French parliament and a former communications manager for the French side are both under investigation at the moment.
It is alleged the parliamentarian secured tax benefits for the club in exchange for tickets and other favours from the communications manager.
Will Neymar be punished?
The Al-Hilal star, who has enough problems of his own, is not in trouble regarding the deal.
He did have his own legal troubles recently to worry about, as he was charged with fraud and corruption over his move from Santos to Barcelona.
Spanish prosecutors have since dropped the charges, the New York Times noted. Goal also reported that he was fined £2.6 million for building a lake at his mansion in Brazil.
