- Tinashe Nengomasha believes Kaizer Chiefs has lost its way
- The ex Kaizer Chiefs player has slammed the club’s recruitment
- Kaizer Chiefs are currently sixth on the league table
Kaizer Chiefs used to be South Africa’s biggest football club in the 2000s, but the PSL club is struggling to keep pace with the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and Cape Town City nowadays.
The Amakhosi are having a season to forget, languishing in sixth position, 11 points behind rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African Premier League this season, much to the dismay of their former players.
According to The South African, former Kaizer Chiefs player Tinashe Nengomasha has pointed at the club’s latest recruitment policy as the reason for their downfall and has accused the club of losing its way.
“I think the recruitment policy has changed. It’s not the same way they used to do in the past. You remember when they used to sign players in the past? Those players were Kaizer Chiefs material.
“I doubt it’s the same this time. If you look at all the players that they signed at the start of the season, which players have really shone for the team? You should not be counting players.”
Nengomasha advised Kaizer Chiefs to sign players based on their level of exposure rather than their skillset as the way forward to restore the club’s lost glory.
Johnson the answer for Amakhosi
Meanwhile, supporters of Kaizer Chiefs have called for interim coach Cavin Johnson to be appointed on a permanent basis after he turned around the fortunes of the struggling club, News 24 reports.
Since Johnson took over after the firing of coach Molefi Ntseki just four months into his tenure, he has been able to numb but not cure the pain of Amakhosi fans, finishing the year by collecting 10 points from a possible 12.

FootballKaizer Chiefs' board has come under fire this season following the poor performances of the team, and they have promised to hire a new coach since during the Africa Cup of Nations window, although some fans would prefer Johnson to continue in his role.
Ex Kaizer Chiefs Star wants PSL return
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that a former Kaizer Chiefs star is reportedly close to making a return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) after a short stint in Europe.
Cole Alexander had a year left on his contract with the club but the two parties agreed to go their separate ways in June last year.
The former SuperSport United star became a free agent after that decision and went on to join Swedish second-tier side, Helsingborgs IF, then coached by Stuart Baxter.
