- The Al Ahly star has scored 22 league goals since moving to the Egyptian club in 2021
- Tau is now one of the key players of the squad, and Mosimane praised the player's hard work
South African manager Pitso Mosimane has branded Percy Tau as 'not just any player' ahead of the forthcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tau has been named in Hugo Broos' squad for the continental showpiece, and he is expected to help his side in the attack.
Mosimane is delighted that the 29-year-old is in incredible form for his Egyptian club, Al Ahly, so far this season.
The pacy forward had started his career with the club on a shaky note, but he seems to have put all that behind him.
He has so far played 82 league matches for the club and scored 22 goals to establish himself as a star man under Marcel Koller.
Speaking of his former player, Mosimane said in a recent podcast interview on Sports Live with BBK, as per Kingfut:
“Percy Tau, I can put my head on the block.
“Percy [Tau] and Khaya Shozi were close [while we were at Sundowns]. I knew I had a succession plan [at Sundowns]. We gave Khaya a senior contract before Percy. [And I said to Percy] Prove to me. I’m happy to be proven wrong [that you’re ready to play in the first team].
“Percy is not just any other player. I don’t coach Percy; I don’t tell him to work hard."
