Ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles camp has been bubbling, with 17 players, including Alex Iwobi and Ademola Lookman, already present at the Abu Dhabi camp.

The Fulham and Atalanta players are part of Nigeria’s final 25-man squad submitted to CAF to represent the Super Eagles at Africa’s biggest football competition starting on January 13.

The Nigerian superstars, alongside teammates Joe Aribo and Ola Aina, have been pictured flying in economy class on their way to the Super Eagles camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

All four players have safely arrived at the team’s camp, and the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that training for AFCON will officially kickstart on Wednesday, January 3, Complete Sport reports.

The AFCON 2023 will commence on 13 January and end on 11 February 2024, and the Super Eagles will face Equatorial Guinea in their first Group A game on January 14.

Juventus join Ademola Lookman chase

Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman could be set for a major transfer before the end of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as Serie A giants have entered the race to sign the Super Eagles star, Punch reports.

The 26-year-old Nigerian winger, whose contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2026, is seen by the Bianconeri as an ideal partner for their Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Lookman, who has scored twice in eight appearances for Nigeria, is one of eight forwards named in the Nigerian squad for the African Cup of Nations, which will be held in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.

Injured Ndidi replaced from squad

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, the Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed.

The 27-year-old midfielder was initially included in Jose Peseiro’s final 25-man squad for the AFCON, but it is now confirmed he will not be joining the Super Eagles camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, due to the injury.

Royal Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been drafted in as a replacement for the injured Ndidi, and the 23-year-old is now expected to link up with the team in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, January 3.
