  • Son Heung-Min will represent South Korea in the Asia Cup in Qatar later this month
  • In his absence, Tottenham Hotspur will play crucial Premier League and FA Cup ties
  • Son has called on his teammates to step it up while he is away on international duty

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to manage the next month without their talismanic captain.

Spurs, who are currently fifth in the English Premier League table, could be without Son Heung-min for up to a whole month.

The South Korean will head off to Qatar for the AFC Asia Cup and will miss some crucial games for the London-based side.

Son has been crucial for Ange Postecoglou’s side and his absence will be felt at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has scored 12 goals in 21 games in all competitions this season, Transfermarkt noted.

With the Asian continental tournament kicking off on January 12, and the final being played on February 10, Sports Brief looks at the games Son could miss.

Son urges teammates to step up

With the South Korean heading off to Qatar in the midst of an important period, Son urged his ‘family’ to step up and take care of business, The Mirror reported.

He used the example of how he stepped up whenever Harry Kane was unavailable.

"I hope people can step up when I am away. They are my family and my teammates. I hope they can score as many goals as possible. I feel like when Harry was here and he was missing some games with injuries, I felt like I needed to step up in previous years."

The games Salah will miss for Liverpool

Another side is set for tough times at the start of 2024, with Liverpool without Mohamed Salah for several games, Sports Brief previously reported.

Egypt’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast spells trouble for the Reds, who could be without the star for as many as eight games.

Table-topping Liverpool will be in league and cup action in January and February 2024, and Salah’s absence will be felt by the Merseyside outfit.
