The head coach of the Nigerian national football team, Jose Peseiro, has reiterated his commitment to lead the team to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title.
Nigeria last won the tournament in 2013 under the tutelage of Stephen Keshi, having won the 1980 and 1994 editions.
Ivory Coast is set to host the 34th edition of the continental showpiece, which starts on January 13, and Peseiro believes his side can go all the way.
Recall that at the last edition of the tournament in Cameroon, Nigeria won all their group games only to lose to a depleted Tunisian side in the Round of 16.
The Super Eagles are now drawn in Group A alongside host Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
Upon his appointment as the coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro stressed that winning the AFCON title was his aim. And now he has maintained that the dream has not changed.
He told Kora Plus, as per Leadership:
“I told everyone that I wanted to win the Africa Cup of Nations from the first moment I signed the contract with the Nigerian national team, and we study our opponents well in order to win, and this is what we seek to achieve."
The 63-year-old, however, tipped the Pharaohs of Egypt as one of the favourites to go home with the title.
