The head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, Rhulani Mokwena, has stated that some issues affecting South African football are affecting his love for the game.
Speaking shortly after his side's 0-0 draw with Polokwane City to end the year 2023, Mokwena lamented the level of officiating in the country.
Sundowns played a total of 60 matches in the course of the year and the game against Polokwane was their 30th match since August.
Although he did not name a particular match or opposition in his rant, the tactician was said to have referenced the embarrassing situation on Wednesday when Sundowns' scheduled league match against Maroka Swallows did not take place.
The Birds did not arrive for the game due to a strike by players. The situation seemed to have left Mokwena upset as he remarked in his comments via Times Live:
“I am sorry I am feeling a little bit grumpy, but this is my mood for the last couple of weeks. This is football and every single day it eats away at my passion for this game.
"Slowly I am losing my love for this game, and it is very sad because I was born into football. I look at how this game is going and say to myself maybe I am not cut out for this."
The Brazilians ended Year 2023 with two draws, with their previous match against Cape Town City also ending in a 0-0 draw.
