FootballYusuf Maart Underplays Leadership Role, Says Kaizer Chiefs Are a Team of Leaders
- Yusuf Maart has taken the Kaizer Chiefs armband in the absence of the seasoned leaders
- Chiefs drew their final match of 2024 and will end the year in sixth place on the log
- Cavin Johnson will have six weeks to prepare for the resumption of the season
Kaizer Chiefs' midfield dynamo is leading by example.
Yusuf Maart's energetic and determined performances prompted Cavn Johnson to reward him with the coveted armband.
Regular captains, Itumeleng Khune and Keegan Dolly are currently sidelined through suspension and injury, respectively.
Maart played the full 90 minutes for Chiefs as they came from behind to draw away at Sekhukhune United.
Ranga Chivaviro came on for league debutant Jasond Gonzales to grab the equaliser after Bafana Bafana reserve Elias Mokwana put Sekhukhune in the lead.
Chiefs showed good character to earn the draw and the new captain had alluded to the team being full of leaders. Soccer Laduma quoted Maart's comments before the game, saying:
"Everyone has a leadership role in the team because we are all in it together. We are putting all our efforts into the team to try to win every game."
The Amakhosi faithful were slightly more critical of the team after dropping points. The vocal Chiefs fans shared their opinions on X, with Amogelang Wa LeKhsoi @BlxckLipPastor saying:
"I thought we survived this Maart obsession ka Ntseki kanti I was wrong. The guy substitutes Ox instead but not his diamond.
Chantal@Gowjas added:
"There's absolutely no difference between Maart and Saile, both are hard workers who lack the intelligence of making the final pass."
MyOpinionRetweet@Kulani_SA claimed:
"Maart does not deserve to captain chiefs let alone start ahead of Castillo."
