  • Al Nassr came from behind to record a convincing victory over Al Taawoun
  • Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 54th goal of 2023 to end the year in style
  • The 38-year-old made an elite statement at full-time as he dropped a hint of what is to come

Cristiano Ronaldo vowed to “try and do it again” after he consolidated his place as the top scorer of 2023 with another goal on Saturday, December 30.

The former Manchester United man may be turning 39 in a month or so, but he is showing no signs of ageing as he was once again on target for Al Nassr in a 4-1 win over Al Taawoun.

His goal on Saturday was a trademark one, as he connected with a cross from Seko Fofana in the 91st minute for his team’s fourth goal.

As cited on Sportstar.com, the header only cemented the visitors’ domination of the game as Marcelo Brozovic, Aymeric Laporte, and fellow Portuguese Otávio Edmilson da Silva had turned the game around after Al Taawoun had taken the lead early in the first half.

Ronaldo emerges as 2023 top-scorer

To say Ronaldo is one of the greatest marksmen in world football in 2023 would be an understatement.

The forward has notched an incredible 54 goals in 2023, beating the likes of a prime Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland.

Not only has Ronaldo been in sensational form for Al Nassr, but he has also helped his national side, Portugal, qualify for the Euros thanks to his goals.

After Al Nassr’s latest win, Ronaldo was inevitably asked to speak about becoming the global top scorer for the latest calendar year.

In typical elite fashion, the 38-year-old’s response was that of a player still hungry for more success and goals.

“It was a good year for me,” he said on EuroFoot.

Ronaldo added, “I scored many goals and helped the team a lot (at Al Nassr and the national team), so I’m really proud. Next year, I’ll try to do it again.”

What next for Ronaldo?

Ronaldo can now unwind as the Saudi Pro League takes a short winter break before resumption in February 2024.
