Lionel Messi had an extraordinary 2023 and followed up winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with multiple awards, including a record-extending eighth Ballon d'Or.

He won the club its first-ever trophy and boosted their commercial appeal, breaking revenue records, match day sales and merchandise sales for the MLS club.
Per GFFN, he admitted that at 36 and no longer playing in Europe, it might be the last time he would be on the biggest stage in his career, but his influence on the sport in some areas can not be stopped.
