  • Pitso Mosimane has coached some big names over the years in his career
  • The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach was once asked to name the best player he coached
  • The CAF Champions League winner is currently without a job, and last coached Al Wahda

Since getting his coaching break in 2001, Pitso Mosimane has coached some of the best footballers in Africa.

Recently, he was asked to name the best player he's ever coached. He refused to name one player but gave an interesting response.

The South African tactician is perhaps one of the best African coaches of all time since he has won plenty as a coach.

He has managed DStv Premiership giants Mamelodi Sundowns, African giants Al Ahly, Saudi Arabia side Al Ahli and other top clubs.

He has lifted the CAF Champions League three times with Sundowns and Al Ahly, as well as three CAF Super Cups.

He is currently not employed, but that will surely not take long, given his resume. He has been linked with Egyptian side Pyramids FC and South African giants Kaizer Chiefs. Mosimane last coached UAE side Al Wahda, per Transfermarkt.

Who is the best player Mosimane coached?

In February, he was asked who was the best player he ever coached. He refused to give one name and explained why in the On The Whistle podcast, per iDiski Times.

“It’s a difficult one, because I coached [the] national team – I’ve coached Benni McCarthy, I’ve coached Steven Pienaar,” he said.

He also name-dropped the likes of Katlego Mphela, Hlompho Kekana, Themba Zwane, Keagan Dolly, and Khama Billiat.

“We can just go on, I can’t say. There are so many I can’t mention. You can’t say one player was better than the others."
“I don’t know [who was the best], they are many. Maybe if I can pick a list of 20, 22 players, maybe I can get around there but one player, no I can’t."

Considering where he is in his career, he will still coach some of the best players before he retires.

Mosimane speaks on Chiefs’ trophy drought

Sports Brief also previously reported on Mosimane discussing Kaizer Chiefs' trophy drought and the possibility of taking over their vacant coaching post.

The struggling AmaKhosi are presently being managed by Cavin Johnson on an interim basis and are still in search of a permanent replacement for Molefi Ntseki.

Kaizer Chiefs remain without a trophy over the past eight seasons, with their last title coming in the 2014/15 Premier Soccer League campaign that they won.
