  • The South African will look to add another trophy to his long resume

South African football star Percy Tau is closing in on another accomplishment with Al Ahly.

The win comes after they took bronze in the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup after beating Japan's Urawa Reds 4-2 in Saudi Arabia.

Al Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra played in the United Arab Emirates in a pulsating encounter.

The 43-time Egyptian champions needed an own goal to win in the UAE. Emam Ashour bamboozled defenders to force an own goal from Justice Arthur.

With no goals between both sides, the game looked to be heading to extra time until deep into injury time when Emam Ashour showed sublime skill to get past defenders and force an own goal from Justice Arthur.

Tau was substituted after 65 minutes after failing to make an impact in the match. Al Ahly will face Modern Future FC in the final set to take place on Thursday, December 28.

Percy Tau closes in on another milestone

The former Brighton & Hove Albion star has had a few good years with the Egyptian side. Tau joined Al Ahly in 2021 and lifted his first league title in July.

He has also won two Egyptian Super Cups, the Egyptian Cup, the CAF Super Cup and last season's CAF Champions League. He also won the CAF Champions League in 2016, per Far Post.

Moreover, he won two South African league titles with Mamelodi Sundowns and one with Belgian giants Club Brugge.

He will have a chance to add another title to his resume before the year ends.

Tau Breaks Quinton Fortune's Record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Tau has broken Quinton Fortune's record by becoming South Africa's all-time top scorer in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Tau scored his first goal in the competition in 2016 for Mamelodi Sundowns, then scored another for the Egyptian giants in 2022.

Fortune bagged two goals for Manchester United in the 2000 edition.
