The Nigeria Football Federation announced the 40-man squad for the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, with players like Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface as the leading stars on the list.
The Super Eagles are bidding to win the AFCON for the first time since 2013, with manager Jose Peseiro given the mandate by the NFF to lead the charge for yet another continental title for the West Africans.
Captain Ahmed Musa and Willian Troost-Ekong have also been listed in the provisional squad, which is set to be trimmed down to 27 players before the CAF deadline on January 3, 2024, Punch reports.
Ekong has not featured for the Super Eagles since the international friendly against Portugal in November 2022, while Musa’s last game for Nigeria was against Guinea Bissau in March 2023.
Peseiro’s 40-man squad comprises six goalkeepers, 13 defenders, eight midfielders, and 13 forwards as Sports Brief takes a look at the likely players set to get dropped from the team.
