- Kamaldeen Sulemana has suffered an injury ahead of AFCON
- The Southampton star has been ruled out of the tournament
- Sulemana was named in the 55-man provisional list for AFCON
Talented Ghanaian winger, Kamaldeen Sulemana is expected to miss the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next month.
The 21-year-old Southampton star has been out with a hamstring injury since last month and it has been confirmed he will not recover in time for the continental championship.
Sulemana made his AFCON debut in Cameroon last year and was one of the brightest spots in a poor Ghana team.
However, Southampton manager Russel Martin disclosed that Sulemana will not be fit in time for AFCON 2023.
“Kamaldeen won’t be in the squad. I’m sure I’ll chat to Chris (Hughton) about where he is in his fitness," said Martin ahead of Southampton's trip to Queens Park Rangers, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet.
“He is going to be nowhere near ready for that. He won’t go.
“Kamaldeen will be fit towards the end of January or the start of February. This could change, I don’t know (for sure)," he added.
Sulemana has struggled with injuries since the start of the season, limiting him to only 13 appearances in the Championship this season, per Transfermarkt.
