  • Mohamed Salah has ditched his usual Christmas tree family picture
  • The Egyptian instead sent a message to war victims in the Middle East
  • He has faced criticisms from Muslims in the past over the pictures

Mohamed Salah has ‘let fans down’ by sharing a different Christmas post instead of his usual family photos, which received strong criticisms from Muslims.

The Egyptian is one of the leading Muslim figures in sport but has shown he is a tolerant and accommodating person by relating freely with people regardless of religion and race.

On the 24th day of December of every year, he shares his family photos in matching pyjamas behind a Christmas tree to celebrate the Christian holiday.

‘Some’ social media users do not take the posts peacefully, citing it as haram to celebrate the holiday according to the tenets of their religion, with some going extreme to wish death on him.

Salah sends Christmas message to Gaza

Fans on social media have been sharing the 2022 posts for a few days while clamouring for the 2023 edition, something he does on Christmas Eve every year.

The Liverpool star took a different approach to his message this year. He shared a black-and-white image of a Christmas tree on his social media pages with a strong message.

“Christmas is a time when families get together and celebrate. With the brutal war going on in the Middle East, especially the death and destruction in Gaza, this year we get to Christmas with very heavy hearts, and we share the pain of those families who are grieving the loss of their loved ones. Please do not forget them, and do not get used to their suffering. Merry Christmas,” he wrote on X.

Per Islam Channel, a Cambridge study found out that since the Egyptian joined Liverpool in 2017, islamophobia and hate crimes have reduced by 16% in the city.

Emenelo not giving up on Salah

Sports Brief previously reported on Michael Emenalo not ruling Salah out of a future move to the Saudi Pro League after Liverpool foiled previous attempts.

The former Chelsea sporting director claimed the door of the league is open to any player, and Salah is one of those as they have no problem with the player or Liverpool.
