- Sundowns still retain the top spot on the league table despite dropping points against the Citizens
Mamelodi Sundowns manager Rulani Mokwena has disclosed why his team dropped points against Cape Town City in the Premier Soccer League at the Cape Town Stadium.
The Masandawana dropped their first point of the season after they were held to a goalless draw against the Citizens on Sunday, December 24.
The Brazilians still remain the clear leaders on the PSL table, but the Blue and Gold Army halted their winning run.
In an interview with SuperSport TV, as per iDiskiTimes, Mokwena claimed he is still proud of his players despite dropping points, and they are doing very difficult things.
"I am very proud of my players. This group is doing things that are very difficult," he said on SuperSport TV.
"It is a marathon that we are running, and I said to the players, the result belongs to anybody; you can't win them all. Just because you won 11 in a row doesn't mean you won everything. What you're owing is the process to try to win it."
The South African tactician went further to explain the reason why his team dropped points against the home side.
"When I look at the indicators – how many chances for Cape Town City? I am not so sure they had too many chances. Did we create chances? I think so. Maybe not as best as we possibly can, and then we also made a couple of mistakes in the final third," he added.
"So I am happy with the process. We tried to win the game, but the result belongs to anybody."
