Erik ten Hag, the coach of Manchester United, has urged for composure following his team's disheartening loss against West Ham United on Saturday, December 23.
The defeat at the London Stadium extended their winless streak to four games across all competitions and saw them slip down the Premier League standings behind their opponents.
Injuries have significantly impacted United's 2023–2024 season, contributing to a series of disappointing results. Their recent loss did not only see them drop down the league table but also marked a dismal milestone.
According to One Football, this season's 14 losses across all competitions is the highest before Christmas since 1930, more than nine decades ago.
To add insult to injury, Ten Hag's men have also failed to score in four successive matches for the first time since 1992, Opta Statistics reports.
In light of their struggles, the 53-year-old manager, who faces intense scrutiny for his team's performance, emphasised the need for accountability among both the players and coaching staff for their current situation.
“At Man United, everybody has to take responsibility,” he said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
Despite this, he called for calmness and acknowledged certain accomplishments achieved during the year.
“We have to be calm, stick together, and stick to the plan. We have to do it together.”
“In 2023, we won a Cup and did very well. Now we are underperforming.”
Expressing hope for improvement, ten Hag anticipates a turnaround once key players return from their injury spells.

United's unwanted record
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester United set an unwanted record after yet another defeat, this time at the hands of West Ham United.
The game was deadlocked at 0-0 for more than 70 minutes, but West Ham were able to grab the win thanks to a brilliant six-minute display in the second half.
It does not get any easier for Ten Hag and his wads as they face surprise title contenders Aston Villa in their Boxing Day Premier League fixture.
