The funeral for late soccer star Anele Ngcongca has been postponed due to his mother's health. Anele passed away on 23 November after a horrific car accident on the N2 highway in KwaZulu-Natal.

The former Bafana Bafana star's funeral was originally planned to be on Thursday, 3 December in Gugulethu but has been moved to 10 December, still taking place at Gugulethu Stadium. The ceremony will also be live-streamed on Facebook.

The news of the postponement was tweeted by Anele's sister, Siyasanga Ngcongca. Siyasanga shared that the decision was made as a family as their mother's health is a priority.

Briefly.co.za recently reported on Anele after Mamelodi Sundowns made the decision to retire his jersey. Ngcongca played for Masandawana for four years and made 42 appearances, scoring one goal. He died in a car accident in late November.

The defender had agreed to join AmaZulu on loan before the time of his passing. He was yet to make an appearance for the Durban club. According to a Sundowns insider, the Pretoria club plans to make the announcement of retiring Ngcongca's jersey after his funeral, which will be held later this week.

The number 16 jersey was allocated to new Sundowns arrival Aubrey Modiba, who had just joined from Supersport United. A few days after Ngcongca's death, it was noticed that Modiba had switched to the number 37 shirt during a match against Stellenbosch FC.
