- Manchester City will face Fluminense in the FIFA Club World Cup final today
- The Citizens have the opportunity to win their first title in their first attempt
- Phil Foden believes winning will give City a boost to their EPL title defence
Manchester City have not been their usual best in the Premier League this season, but Phil Foden believes winning the FIFA Club World Cup will give them a needed boost.
City won a historic treble last season and also won their third consecutive Premier League title, a feat that has only been achieved by city rivals, Manchester United.
Consequent to winning the UEFA Champions League, they are in Saudi Arabia for the Club World Cup, where they will play Copa Libertadores champions, Fluminense in the final after beating Urawa Reds in the semi-final.
Foden sends message to title rivals
Per Mirror UK, Foden joined Pep Guardiola for the press conference ahead of the final and noted that victory would give them the confidence to set their league season on track.
"If we win it then it’s going to give us massive confidence - and a push that we need. We’re hoping in the final that we can do well and win it for the club for the first time," he said.
"I guess this can be a way to put things behind us. Sometimes, you have to roll your socks up and go again. It's been obviously tough recently because we've been playing well and not getting the results we deserved, so this has been about getting back to winning."
Per Evening Standard, long-term absentee and captain, Kevin De Bruyne travelled with the team as he nears a return from injury, while Erling Haaland was also with the team.
