  • Kaizer Chiefs bought Christian Saile from Zambian side Nchanga Rangers in July
  • He is tied for second-highest goal-scorer for the Amakhosi this season with three
  • Saile has not been named in DR Congo's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations

Kaizer Chiefs' expected goal machine has not yet yielded a return on investment.

Christian Saile arrived at Naturena off the back of fine form for his Zambian club and hopes were high that he would bang in goals for fun.

The Bosomboli bomber has scored six times for Amakhosi since January, but his goal to minutes play ratio has been far below his rate at Nchanga Rangers.

Saile has yet to find his groove in the Kaizer Chiefs attacking line but he has shown glimpses of creative spark and the right attitude.

Moved around the front three with regularity, he believes a return to the form that saw him score 19 goals in Zambia is just around the corner.

As reported by TimesLive, Saile said:

"I’m working hard to start scoring goals and getting the confidence. I needed a bit of time to adapt, and I feel like I’m getting there."

Despite the pressure to perform, Saile is still among the highest scorers at the club this season.

Pule Mmodi has scored four, while the Congolese and Edson Castillo have three each. As per FBRef, Ranga Chivaviro has scored just one.

Elaborating on his own instincts, Saile added:

"In Zambia, I played a lot as a playmaker because I move a lot, but my preferred position will be on either side of the wing."

Arthur Zwane was Chiefs head coach when Saile joined and both he and Molefi Ntseki have left. A stable environment under Cavin Johnson could be the necessary environment to breed success.

Cavin Johnson backed by former Chiefs player

Sports Brief also previously reported on the backing given to Cavin Johnson by a former Kaizer Chiefs player.

Malawian midfield general, Patrick Mabedi stated the coach is the right man to lead the club into the future.

His calm demeanour is arguably his greatest strength, something that has swayed the perception of onlookers.
