- Jurgen Klopp has called on more support from fans ahead of the game against Arsenal
- This came amid a comment from Andre Onana who said he had felt ‘nothing’ at Anfield
- Liverpool are early Premier League title contenders alongside the table-leading Gunners
Jurgen Klopp surprised many by hitting out at the Anfield atmosphere ahead of his side’s crunch match against Arsenal.
The Liverpool boss made the comments after the Reds comfortably beat a woeful West Ham United 5-1 to advance to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
The Reds are early title contenders going into the Arsenal game, as they sit just one point behind the leaders after 17 games.
One factor that has helped Liverpool establish themselves as a powerhouse in the league this season is their formidable home form, which suffered a slight setback after the frustrating 0-0 draw against Manchester United on December 17.
According to Sky Sports, the game against the Red Devils saw 57,158 fans present, which was the highest attendance at Anfield in 1963.
That record was broken three days later as a record 57,332 watched Liverpool thrash West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Despite the numbers at Liverpool’s home stadium in the last two games, Klopp is still discontent with the atmosphere from their home fans.
Klopp issues plea to Liverpool fans
After the West Ham game, Klopp came up with a brutally honest take on the atmosphere at Anfield.
"I have to say - it's long ago that I said this - but I thought the first half a little bit, when the boys played really exceptional, I was not overly happy, I have to say, with the atmosphere behind me," he said as quoted by the Standard.
His comments came just days after two individuals linked to Manchester United also controversially criticised the atmosphere at the iconic stadium.
