Manchester City set two unwanted records for Pep Guardiola in defeat to Aston Villa
FootballPochettino, ten Hag and Other Managers Under Pressure Ahead of Premier League’s Festive Period
- The Premier League is set to continue its tradition of a busy festive period
- Two managers have been sacked this season after a run of poor results
- Some other managers are facing likely departures if results don’t improve
Most European leagues have gone into a break until the new year, but the Premier League only gets busier during the festive period, with games every three days.
The league has witnessed two managerial departures at this point. Chris Wilder replaced Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United, while Steve Cooper was replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.
Sports Brief looks at four managers at the risk of losing their jobs next, as first analysed by Mirror UK.
4 PL managers who could be sacked next
1. Roy Hodgson
The veteran manager returned to Crystal Palace last season to help the club avoid relegation after Patrick Vieira was sacked. He steered the club to safety and was made permanent. He was already on an ultimatum before a comeback draw against Manchester City saved him. That may be short if results worsen during the busy festive season.
2. Vincent Kompany
Kompany’s Burnley won the EFL Championship emphatically and were promoted to the Premier League. A return of only eight points in the first 17 games has the Clarets 19th on the log. It won’t be long before patience runs out for the Manchester City legend and he is shown the exit door.
3. Erik ten Hag
The Dutch manager oversaw Manchester United breaking their six-year trophy drought last year with the Carabao Cup. This season has seen inconsistent results amid rumours Sir Jim Ratcliffe could sack him when he takes over football operations, per Sky Sports, with the team's performance not helping matters.
4. Mauricio Pochettino
Pochettino came in to steady Chelsea’s sinking ship and has an array of players worth over £1 billion to choose from. So far, the team has looked like one that needs almost the same amount of investment. The win over Sheffield and reaching the Carabao Cup semi-final has softened the ground for him.

Five managers who could replace ten Hag
Sports Brief previously reported on five managers who could replace ten Hag if the Dutchman is sacked as Man Utd manager as pressure mounts on him over poor results.
Former Chelsea boss, Graham Potter is reportedly top of the list, especially if Sir Jim Ratcliffe succeeds in buying a 25% stake at the club, with Hansi Flick also a candidate.
