Club obligations take a back seat in January when national fire burns proudly.
AFCON 2023 is drawing nearer and with it, the rumble of the stampede descending on Ivory Coast grows louder.
The bulk of Hugo Broos' South African squad comes from the DStv Premiership but which other African teams draw members from the continent's wealthiest league?
A total of 20 players from nine other qualified nations have made their respective preliminary squads, hoping to make the final cut in the coming weeks.
Namibia are the most represented, while fellow COSAFA members Zambia and Mozambique are also represented, as per iDiskiTimes.
From West Africa, Sekhukhune United have Ivorian Badra Ali Sangaré, Polokwane City boasts Equitorial Guniea's Manuel Sapunga and Orlando Pirates employ Ghana's Richard Ofori.
Nigeria have a host of players in the top leagues across the world but only one representative in South Africa, that being Chippa United's Stanley Nwabali.
The two other COSAFA nations have several preliminary representatives each. SuperSport United's Gamphani Lungu and Amazulu FC's Rally Bwalya make up the contingent for Chipolopolo.
For Mozambique, they have Kaizer Chiefs' Denilson Dove and Polokwane City's Manuel Kambala. Namibia have 10 players in the DStv Premiership, including Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile and Orlando Pirates' Deon Hotto.
Rounding out the list are the Tanzanians, Chippa United's Baraka Majogoro and Richards Bay FC's Abdi Banda.
The rescheduled AFCON 2023 begins on January 13 with hosts Ivory Coast against Guniea-Bissau.

Broos names preliminary AFCON squad
Sports Brief also previously reported on Hugo Broos announcing his initial squad to prepare for AFCON 2023.
The 50-man squad will be trimmed down to 27 players, with that list needing to be submitted by January 4.
Broos was criticised for his selection, with many questioning why he left out young star, Relebohile Mofokeng.
