  • He is presently eyeing history as his side face Fluminese in the FIFA Club World Cup final

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has recently delved into the prospect of someday coaching Spain's national team, La Roja.

Regarded by many as one of the greatest football managers in history, Guardiola currently stands with a year remaining on his contract with the Premier League and European champions, Man City, drawing attention from various potential suitors.

While speculations link him to a return to his former stomping ground at Barcelona, especially amid the club's challenges defending their league title, a new narrative has emerged suggesting Guardiola's transition from club management to the national team arena.

His home country, Spain, appears as a promising destination, albeit the 52-year-old seems less inclined toward this scenario, reiterating his commitment to the Citizens, per Diario AS.

“Managing Spain? . Really, really happy,” he told BBC's Mike Minay as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Emphasising his dedication to City beyond the present contractual term, the former Bayern Munich boss dismissed immediate prospects of coaching Spain's national team, preferring to remain at the helm at the Etihad.

“I still have one more year on contract. Hopefully, they don't sack me, and I can stay here, the time still with this club!”

What's next for Pep Guardiola?

After facing a string of setbacks in the Premier League, notably squandering a 2-0 lead against Crystal Palace, Guardiola's focus has shifted to the FIFA Club World Cup.

His charges convincingly defeated Japanese opponents, Urawa Red Diamonds, the reigning Asian champions, in the semi-final, setting the stage for a clash against Copa Libertadores winners, Fluminense.

The game has been slated for Friday, December 22, at the King Abdullah as the English side aims for their inaugural Club World Cup title.

Guardiola on the brink of history

Sports Brief also reported that Pep Guardiola could make history as the manager with the most wins in the competition if his team overcomes the Copa Libertadores champions in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Spaniard has won the competition three times - twice with Barcelona and the third after taking over Bayern, who won the 2013 UCL. He would win his fourth if he guided Man City to victory on Friday.
