  • Victor Osimhen is reportedly top of Arsenal’s wishlist for a new striker
  • The Gunners are looking to sign a new striker in the next 12 months
  • Osimhen has scored eight goals in 16 appearances for Napoli this season

Victor Osimhen could be heading to Arsenal next summer as the Super Eagles forward has reportedly been identified as a top target for the Premier League giants.

The Gunners are searching for a clinical striker to reinforce their challenge for the EPL and UEFA Champions League and feel the 24-year-old Nigerian forward fits their profile.

According to Football London, Gabriel Jesus' consistency in scoring goals and his injury record have been a source of worry for the Arsenal board as the Brazilian is constantly on the doctor’s table.

Osimhen caught the eye of the Gunners after leading Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years last season, scoring a whopping 31 goals in 39 appearances to emerge as the best striker in Italy.

The Nigerian forward has kicked off this season in the same fashion, having already netted eight goals for the reigning Serie A champions despite missing close to five weeks through injury.

Osimhen subbed on in Napoli defeat

The Super Eagles star forward was in action on Tuesday but could not aid his team as Napoli were eliminated from the Coppa Italia after a 4-0 loss to Frosinone, Complete Sports reports.

The 24-year-old striker came on as a substitute for Giovanni Simeone in the 63rd minute when the score was goalless but was helpless as Frosinone ran riot to score four goals to seal an emphatic victory.

Following their Coppa Italia exit, Napoli’s chances of winning a trophy this season look very slim as they have drawn Barcelona in the Champions League last 16 and are currently 14 points behind Inter Milan in the Serie A title race.

Victor Osimhen gets injury scare

Sports Brief previously reported that Nigerians will breathe easier after the latest update on Victor Osimhen following an injury scare suffered during Napoli’s win against Cagliari.

The Super Eagles forward ran the show to hand the reigning Serie A champions a 2-1 win, scoring one and creating arguably the assist of the season for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri has downplayed any talks of a serious injury to Osimhen after fears were raised by the striker’s substitution in the 82nd minute of the match.
