Nigerians will heave a sigh of relief after the latest update on star striker, Victor Osimhen following an injury scare suffered during Napoli’s weekend victory against Cagliari.
The Super Eagles forward ran the show to hand the reigning Serie A champions a 2-1 win, scoring one and creating arguably the assist of the season for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, Napoli manager, Walter Mazzarri has downplayed any talks of a serious injury to Osimhen after fears were raised following the striker’s substitution in the 82nd minute of the game.
"Osimhen? It doesn't seem like a serious injury to me, it will be a temporary thing."
Osimhen, who was recently named CAF Player of the Year ahead of Achraf Hakimi and Mohamed Salah, is likely to spearhead the Super Eagles attack in next month's Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
Moffi a major doubt for AFCON
Meanwhile, OGC Nice forward, Terem Moffi faces the disappointment of missing out on featuring for the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations due to a hamstring injury, Soccernet reports.
The forward’s hopes of playing in his first AFCON tournament for Nigeria were dashed as he sustained the injury hours before Nice’s Ligue game against La Havre on Saturday, December 16.
Moffi is expected to be out for up to four weeks due to the injury and might not recover in time to make the Super Eagles' 27-man final squad for AFCON in Ivory Coast next January.
