FootballMohamed Salah: Mourinho Shares the Truth About Why Chelsea Sold Egypt Star
- Jose Mourinho was opposed to Chelsea selling Mohamed Salah
- Mourinho was manager when the Egyptian was sold to AS Roma
- Salah has developed into a world-class striker at Liverpool since
Jose Mourinho has come out to clear the air on his role in Chelsea’s decision to offload Mohamed Salah following the striker’s struggles while under his tutelage in London.
The young Egyptian was starved of opportunities at the Blues and ultimately left for Italy, a decision that seemed to have been justified following the tremendous rise in his career ever since.
According to Essentially Sport, Mourinho confirmed he was against Chelsea’s decision to sell Salah, but the Egyptian wanted more playing time.
"When people tell me you let Salah go, I see the opposite. I bought Salah. I was the one who went to buy that guy. He was going from Basel to Liverpool, but I made a fight - I made a war - to make him come to Chelsea."
The Specia One mentioned that to be a Blues player at that time, one needed to perform or wait one's turn.
[Salah] didn’t want to wait. He wanted to go on loan, and then, at a certain point, Chelsea decided to sell him. That was not me deciding to sell. I was saying, let him go on loan, if he feels that he needs to play every minute," Mourinho told the Obi One Podcast.
Salah was loaned out to Fiorentina midway through Chelsea's title-winning 2014/15 season and spent the next campaign on loan at AS Roma.

Sports Brief also previously reported Liverpool superstar, Salah being close to an EPL record if he had scored or assisted against Manchester United.
The 31-year-old has either scored or assisted a goal in 16 consecutive home games and had a chance to join elite company against the Red Devils.
A goal or an assist in the tie would have seen him make the second-longest run in Premier League history, only behind Alan Shearer at Blackburn Rovers.
