According to iDiski Times, Egyptian giants, Al Ahly and Morocco powerhouses, Wydad AC have been confirmed as two of the four African participants so far, with two more teams to join them.

The winner of the 2023/24 CAF Champions League will get a slot in the competition while Africa’s best-ranked team, aside from the already qualified teams, will take the final spot for the 2025 tournament.

The FIFA Council recently met ahead of the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and took key decisions in relation to the new extended Club World Cup.

How the new format works

Meanwhile, Europe will have 12 clubs in the 32-team tournament with the spaces allocated based on performances in the Champions League over four seasons from 2020-21 up to and including this season, Sky Sports reports.

The competition will follow the traditional FIFA World Cup format, with 32 teams divided into eight groups of four. The top two advance to the knockout stage, with the finalists playing seven matches in total.

The first edition of the tournament will take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

Al Ahly targets Club World Cup

Sports Brief also previously reported on Al Ahly continuing their quest for a maiden Club World Cup triumph with a victory against Saudi Pro League giants, Al-Ittihad.

The African champions, who were the underdogs of the clash, made light work of their Saudi opponents on the night, with Tunisian star, Ali Maaloui scoring from the spot.

Forward, Hussein El Shahat added a second shortly after former Real Madrid captain, Karim Benzema missed from 12 yards out, with Eman Ashour wrapping up the win.
