- Ozil retired from professional football aged 34 earlier this year
Former Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil showed off his savage side on social media after poking fun at actor Leonardo DiCaprio’s past relationships.
This was after the ‘Titanic’ and ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ actor sensationally claimed he ‘did not know what Arsenal was’.
The legendary actor was at an event in London's Leicester Square when the topic of football came up.
He was having a discussion with his co-star in the movie Killers of the Flower Moon, Lily Gladstone, who suggested that top football players were higher-calibre athletes than NBA players.
It was then that DiCaprio remarked, “Better than Michael Jordan? The greatest basketball player ever!”
The legendary actor then risks outrage by asking, ”What’s Arsenal?” a question that has been circulated widely on social media.
On X, formerly Twitter, an account by the handle @Filmupdates shared DiCaprio’s quote, and it caught the attention of Mesut Ozil, who joined in poking fun at the 49-year-old award-winning actor.
“Arsenal Football Club is older than 25 years … so why should he know?” Ozil tweeted and his post instantly went viral.
For those wondering, Ozil referred to DiCaprio’s past relationships, as the actor has always had a taste for younger women. The relationships always end before the ladies clock 25 years.
It was confusing to hear DiCaprio appearing clueless about football, especially because he has been spotted at several Champions League matches. He also made several appearances at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, according to GOAL.com.
For Arsenal fans, it was refreshing for them to see Ozil sticking out for their club after spending eight successful seasons in North London.
