  • Eintracht Frankfurt are in pursuit of a Nigerian forward
  • Dino Toppmoller’s side are looking for a replacement for Kolo Muani
  • The Bundesliga outfit have been dealt a huge blow in the pursuit of the Nigerian

Eintracht Frankfurt are in dire need of a marquee forward who could help them fill the void created by the summer departure of French striker Randal Kolo Muani.

The Bundesliga outfit, who are far off the heights they previously attained under the leadership of Oliver Glasner, have largely struggled through the 2023-24 season due to the unavailability of a prolific forward.

In an attempt to address this issue, the 2021-2022 UEFA Europa League champions have turned their attention to Nigerian striker Gift Orban.

The Super Eagles forward gained recognition on the European stage with a remarkable first-half hat-trick in the UEFA Europa Conference League match against Istanbul Basaksehir.

Within just 12 months at his Belgian club Gent, the 21-year-old has made a significant impact, scoring 32 goals in 48 appearances, according to Fotmob statistics.

His impressive performance has attracted interest from several top European clubs, with Frankfurt expressing particular interest in signing him.

However, the Bundesliga side are faced with a significant setback in their pursuit of Orban.

Frankfurt dealt huge transfer blow

According to Sky Sports Germany's transfer correspondent Florian Plettenberg, Gent is only willing to consider offers exceeding ₤20 million for the forward, a fee that Frankfurt are reluctant to pay.

The report indicates that the deal is currently off unless both parties can reach a compromise on the transfer fee.

Whether this compromise will materialise remains uncertain. Regardless, suppose the forward's transfer is finalised. In that case, it may not be until February of the new year before Orban makes his debut for his new club due to potential involvement in the African Cup of Nations for Nigeria.

Orban sings 'Last Last' during Nigeria initiation

Sports Brief previously reported on Orban hilariously performing 'Last Last' by Burna Boy during his formal initiation into the Nigerian national team earlier this year.

The Belgium-based striker earned his first invite to the Super Eagles ahead of the final 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in the country's Uyo state.

In a video that went viral on social media, Orban left his teammates in utter delirium as he tried to sing the hit song by the Grammy award-winning Nigerian musician.
