FootballJose Mourinho Aims Swipe at Pep Guardiola’s Transfer Dealings After Kalvin Phillips Statement
- Jose Mourinho was left amused at Manchester City's model of business regarding Kalvin Phillps
- The midfielder is believed to be on his way out of the club after failing to get a regular spot
- Mourinho had revealed that his side, AS Roma, don't have such kind of luxury
Jose Mourinho has aimed a subtle dig at Pep Guardiola's ability to spend lots of money on new players as he bemoaned AS Roma's lack of funds.
Guardiola recently ruffled a few feathers when he candidly admitted that Kalvin Phillips could leave the club in January.
Phillips hasn't enjoyed much game time under the Spanish head coach since he joined from Leeds United. Guardiola admitted that the Englishman was ticking all the boxes in training but wasn't compatible with how he wanted his team to approach games.
"I don't know what's going to happen. I feel so sorry for my decision for him. I've said that many times. He doesn't deserve what has happened to him and I'm so sorry. The only thing I can say about him is I am asking for good personalities and characters and he is a perfect example," said Guardiola, as quoted by Sky Sports.
The fact that Manchester City will be willing to let go of the 28-year-old who was bought for a £42m fee has amused Mourinho.
Mourinho amused by City's transfer business
The AS Roma boss has never shied away from demanding new players but is alive to the fact the Giallarosi don't have the financial war chest as other European clubs.
"Our transfer business will always have to be adapted to what we can do financially,"
The Special One then dropped a Guardiola jab for old times' sake.
Chelsea are 'own worst enemies': Pochettino
Football"Not that I’m jealous, but Man City paid €80 million for Phillips and now Pep has said it would be better for him to leave in January. So he’ll leave, and they’ll get someone else. Our reality is different," as quoted by Roma Press.
The Portuguese head coach has seemingly shaken off the poor start to the season, with Roma now up to fourth in the Serie A standings.

The unidentified man was dancing to American rapper Lil Baby's My Dawg, and football fans picked it up, asking the Special One to be careful of dropping a stinker lest he would be trolled.
