Nigerian defensive midfielder Emmanuel Onu Okwudili has joined Kazakhstan Premier League (KPL) club side Shakhter Karagandy on a lucrative contract.

The 24-year-old midfielder has previously played for teams like RC Athletico of Cape Town in South Africa, Sudanese side Al Hilal, and also clubs in Bahrain.

The Nigerian midfielder was brought in by Karagandy's manager Igor Soloshenko to help the team's defensive department.

Shakhter Karagandy are still battling for their lives in the Kazakhstan Premier League as they are currently 10th on the log.

The club is trying to avoid relegation from the 14-team league and needs the contribution of their new signing, Okwudili.

Okwudili claimed it was a dream to play for a club like Shakhter Karagandy, and thanked the club and the coaching crew, according to a report by News Direct.

"It is a dream to play for a big club like this. I want to thank the coaching crew and the club president," he said.

The England-born midfielder also expressed his happiness about joining the KPL side, and he was excited about the adventure ahead of him.

"I am so happy to be here. I am so happy to join this club. I am so excited and thrilled," he added.

Despite being born in England, he is still eligible to play for the Super Eagles due to his Nigerian roots and has previously played in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

Sports Brief previously reported that Super Eagles star, Samuel Chukwueze scored a sensational goal for AC Milan in their UEFA Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund at the San Siro Stadium.

The winger's goal cancelled out an early opener from Marco Reus after Olivier Giroud missed a penalty won by the Nigerian international.

Reus had scored from the penalty spot at the 10-minute mark after Davide Calabria brought down Jamie Bynoe-Gittens in the box.
