The 2023/2024 season of the UEFA Champions League, the last one that will held in the current format, is set to enter its business stage following the conclusion of the group stage.

Manchester United were the biggest casualties, dropping out of European football altogether after finishing last in Group A.

Arsenal, meanwhile, eased through in Group B on their return to the big stage following a six-year absence. As Group winners, Mikel Arteta's side will face one of the runners-up.

The only exception to this rule is they can't face PSV Eindhoven since they were in the same group and neither can they play a team from their division (Premier League).

The latter won't apply in this case as the only other English team in the round of 16 draw, Manchester City, also qualified as group winners.

Who has qualified for UCL round of 16?

The teams that have qualified as group winners include Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, and Barcelona.

The runners-up are FC Copenhagen, PSV, Napoli, Inter Milan, SS Lazio, Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig, and FC Porto.

Who can Arsenal and Manchester City face?

From the above, the Gunners could face any team apart from PSV. A match-up against Inter Milan could provide a platform for the return of Alexis Sanchez, who represented the North London side from 2014 to 2018.

Arteta will also be wary of drawing PSG who, despite inconsistent results in Europe so far, are still a formidable team with Kylian Mbappe within their ranks.

At the same time, Inter might have an early opportunity to exact revenge for their Champions League final loss should they draw Man City. Pep Guardiola's side can also face PSG, which could set up an exciting prospect.

The only team the Citizens can't face is RB Leipzig, who finished second in their group.

The draw will take place on Monday, December 18, as per UEFA's official website.

Man City among 13 'perfect' UCL teams

As Sports Brief also reported, only two teams secured victories in all six matches during the group stage of this season's Champions League.

This marks the conclusive instalment of the tournament's current format, as a new structure is set to be introduced by the elite competition next year.

Man City achieved a historic milestone by finishing the UCL group stage with a perfect record of six wins of six, joining an elite group in the process.
