Ten Hag's charges suffered a 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at the Theatre of Dreams to bow out of the Champions League in the group stages.

According to Sky Sports, Kingsley Coman's second-half goal was the only difference in the tie.

United's defeat in the encounter meant that the Premier League giants could only manage one win in six of the matches they played in a group consisting of Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen.

Lopetegui favourite to replace Ten Hag

With Ten Hag under fire to quit, reports claim Lopetegui has emerged as the favourite to replace the Dutchman.

According to Sportbible, citing sources in Spain, Lopetegui is ahead of Zinedine Zidane on United's potential list of replacements.

The Spaniard is currently unemployed after quitting his role at Wolves.

Zidane is equally not attached anywhere at the moment, months after he left Real Madrid.

The Frenchman was previously linked with the France national team job but failed to land the role.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils will be back in action on Sunday, December 17, when they will play rivals Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield.

Ten Hag's possible replacements

Earlier, Sports Brief analysed six available world-class managers who could replace under-fire Erik ten Hag.

ten Hag has come under immense criticism in recent weeks owing to Manchester United's struggles this season across competitions.

United have endured a worrying run of inconsistencies, with the club currently unable to maintain any momentum.
