Young Boys forward Ebrima Colley has made history in the UEFA Champions League after scoring in the game against RB Leipzig.

According to Opta Joe, Colley became the first Gambian to score in the UEFA Champions League.

It also makes Gambia the 108th nation to have a scorer in the elite European competition.

With Young Boys already out of the UEFA Champions League, the Swiss outfit needed a favourable result to secure a spot in the Europa League knockout stage.

The hosts opened the scoring six minutes after the break through Benjamin Sesko but Colley responded two minutes later to level the scoreline.

However, his equalizer lasted for only three minutes as Emil Forsberg netted the winner for RB Leipzig.

Red Star Belgrade lost to Manchester City in the other group game, allowing Young Boys to drop to the Europa League.

The Gambia international joined Young Boys in the summer transfer window on loan from Italian side Atalanta BC, per Transfermarkt.

Colley is expected to join the Gambian national team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next month.

Man City and Leipzig progress from Group G

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Holders Manchester City and Leipzig became the first teams to reach the last 16 of this season's Champions League on Tuesday while Danylo Sikan's goal allowed Shakhtar Donetsk to claim a stunning win over Barcelona.

Pep Guardiola's reigning champions have eased into the knockout phase with a perfect record, a 3-0 win over Young Boys making it four wins out of four in Group G.

Erling Haaland followed his brace in Bern two weeks ago with another two goals against the Swiss side, with the Norwegian striker opening the scoring from the penalty spot midway through the first half.
