Hamilton showed off his fancy footwork in the 19th minute before firing home past the Crvena Zvezda keeper to give his side the lead.

Micah Hamilton’s fairytale story

What made his goal all the more special is the story behind it.

During a game against Crystal Palace, City manager Pep Guardiola was unhappy about the speed of City’s play and got the ball boys involved to speed things up. The former Barcelona boss was spotted giving one of the youngsters a ‘lecture’ on the sidelines, encouraging them to help get the ball quicker to players.

The youngster he was spotted speaking to was a young Hamilton.

Man City survive late scare

Despite playing against a side that knew they would finish bottom of Group G no matter what, City didn't have it all their own way against Zvezda.

The Serbian side pushed the reigning champions all the way, but still lost the fixture 3-2. The win for Guardiola's men meant that they finished the group stages with six wins out of six, becoming only the second English side to do that.

Manchester City among 13 'perfect' UCL teams

Only two teams managed to secure victories in all six of their matches during the group stage of this season's Champions League.

This marks the conclusive instalment of the tournament's current format, as a new structure is set to be introduced next year, Sports Brief reported.

Man City achieved a historic milestone by finishing the Champions League group stage with a perfect record of six wins out of six, joining an elite group in the process.
