  • Mokete Tsotetsi is displeased with how the club is dealing with Itumeleng Khune's case
  • Khune reportedly reported to training drunk on December 7, 2023
  • The 36-year-old goalkeeper was immediately suspended and stripped of his captaincy

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi has expressed dissatisfaction with how the club dealt with Itumeleng Khune's recent case, accusing them of not affording the veteran goalkeeper a second chance, suggesting a hidden agenda.

Khune, who allegedly reported to training under the influence, faced disciplinary action from Chiefs, resulting in his suspension and the removal of his captaincy, pending internal investigation.

Despite starting the season as a backup keeper, Khune was later reinstated as the club's first choice due to mistakes by Brandon Petersen.

Tsotetsi, during his time at Naturena, acknowledged the need for repercussions for Khune's behaviour but believes the club should have approached the situation differently, retaining him as captain during his temporary separation from the first team.

Tsotetsi as quoted on Soccer Laduma:

"In my opinion, the team should have sat him down as a leader. As a leader, you need to sit down and find out the reasons.
"Maybe, they should not have stripped off the leadership badges. It shows that maybe they were waiting for him to make a mistake so that they could strip it off.”

The handling of this incident raises questions about Khune's future at the club, particularly following his earlier statement expressing a desire to continue playing well past the age of 40.

Bruce Bvuma Backed to Take Khune's Spot

Sports Brief earlier reported that goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma is being backed to take the opportunity and cement his position as Kaizer Chiefs' number one following Khune’s suspension.

Bvuma repaid the faith shown in him by head coach Cavin Johnson as he kept a clean sheet against Polokwane City in their DStv Premiership encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on December 9, 2023.

With Khune's days left at Chiefs running low, the perfect time has come for the 28-year-old to claim the number 1 jersey.
