Former Nigerian international Peter Ijeh has disclosed that Nigerian players can do more in the national team with the proper player development structure.
Ijeh is delighted as Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala are crowned CAF's best players in the men's and women's categories, respectively.
Napoli forward Osimhen edged Mohamed Salah and Achraf Hakimi to the prize, while Barcelona Femeni striker Asisat Oshoala bagged the award ahead of Thembi Kgatlana and Barbra Banda.
Nigeria's Chiamaka Nnadozie was named the Goalkeeper of the Year in the women's category, while the Super Falcons bagged the Women's National Team of the Year.
Ijeh, who continues with his coaching career in Sweden, told Sports Brief from his base:
"This is a testament that they can do more in the national team with the proper player development structure of the Super Eagles and Falcons, respectively.
"Building another generation of players is essentially important to keep consistency."
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will now focus on preparing for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations beginning in Ivory Coast in January.
Nigeria are drawn in Group A alongside the host country, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau, however, there seems to be diverse opinion over who should lead the team's technical crew to the continental showpiece.
