Several African football legends, including some previous winners of the African Player of the Year Award, are in Morocco ahead of the 2023 CAF Awards.

The award ceremony is slated for the famous Palais des Congress in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, December 11.

Africa's most esteemed sporting awards will be draped in this delicate combination of elegance, power, royalty and success to celebrate the continent's finest.

Nigeria's Victor Osimhen, Achraf Hakimi of Morocco and Mohamed Salah of Egypt are contending for the main prize in the Men's category.

However, on the sidelines, famous African superstars have landed in Marrakech for the event, including Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto'o, South Africa's Siphiwe Tshabalala and Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo.

Other celebrated superstars billed to grace the main event are El Hadji Diouf (Senegal), Geremi Njitap (Cameroon), Thomas Nkono (Cameroon), Manuel Jose Luis Bucuane (Mozambique), Pascal Feindouno (Guinea), Herita Illunga (DR Congo), Charles Kabore (Burkina Faso), and Abedi Pele (Ghana).

Emmanuel Amunike (Nigeria), Ahmed Hassan (Egypt), Jonathan Pitroipa (Burkina Faso), Siaka Tiene (Côte d’Ivoire), Khalilou Fadiga (Senegal), Kalusha Bwalya (Zambia), Patrick M’Boma (Cameroon), Titi Camara (Guinea), Salomon Kalou (Côte d’Ivoire), Anthony Baffoe (Ghana), and Mustapha El Haddaoui (Morocco).

Twenty-four hours before the big event, they all featured in an exhibition game alongside female stars like Gaelle Enganamouit (Cameroon), Alberta Sackey (Ghana), Clementine Toure (Côte d’Ivoire), Onome Ebi (Nigeria) and Perpetua Nkwocha (Nigeria).

The legends were joined by more than 100 kids around the city for a game to honour the victims of the tragic Earthquake in September 2023, CAF said.

Osimhen to win CAF Player Award

Sports Brief earlier reported that barely hours before the awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, Osimhen emerged as the favourite to win the gong.

His competitors, Salah and Hakimi, have yet to be close in terms of the recent achievements of the 24-year-old.

Although both had their moments in the year under review, Osimhen's historic title charge with Napoli and the fact that he was the first African to win the Serie A Golden Boot places him above the rest.
