FootballBruno Fernandes: INEOS Chairman Ratcliffe Appears to Aim Dig at Man Utd Captain in New Book
- Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to take over a minority stake in Manchester United
- The British billionaire appears not to be a fan of club captain Bruno Fernandes
- He aimed a dig at the Portuguese midfielder in the intro of his newly released book
Bruno Fernandes could be set for an exit at Manchester United if Sir Jim Ratcliffe completes the purchase of a 25% stake in the club, which is expected to be completed soon.
United owners, the Glazers family, have been in the process of a complete sale or partial investment into the club for more than a year, with several bidders showing interest in the club.
Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim, whom many widely expected to win the race for full club ownership, withdrew in October due to the Glazers’ reluctance to sell entirely.
Per Goal, British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe won the race for 25% ownership, but the finalisation of the process has been delayed for a while. It should have been completed during the November international break but was postponed again due to the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States.
Ratcliffe aims dig at Bruno Fernandes
Erik ten Hag stripped Harry Maguire of the captaincy at the start of this season and permanently installed Fernandes, who spent most of last season as captain when Maguire was on the bench.
The decision brought him under fire from the English media due to the attacker’s questionable attitude on the pitch, which has not gone unnoticed by proposed owner Ratcliffe.
Per SportBible, the INEOS chairman released a book titled Introducing Grit, Rigour & Humour: The Ineos Story. In the introduction, he appeared to aim a swipe at the United captain.
